The gap between the need for and the provision of mental health services to the elderly will likely widen as the number of older adults continues to increase in the next few decades. The need for well-trained geropsychologists is apparent. This article presents models used for predoctoral and postdoctoral training of geropsychologists and the results of a survey of participants who had completed these training programs and evaluated their effectiveness in preparing them for future roles as geropsychologists. Results suggest these training programs have been succesful. Problems inherent in establishing such programs are discussed and suggestions for future program development are offered.
