Magnetic ordering in the heavy-electron compound YbSi

<sup>170</sup>Yb Mossbauer experiments in the heavy-electron compound YbSi are presented in the temperature range 0.045-100 K. Magnetic ordering of the Yb moments below 1.6 K is confirmed and a strong moment reduction in the magnetic phase is demonstrated. The crystal-field excitation is estimated to be 2.5 K. YbSi is thus a heavy-electron material where Kondo-frustrated magnetic ordering occurs due to the competition between RKKY exchange and Kondo coupling.
